In the Clay Studio:

Registration for any clay class gives you free use of the clay studio, during Creamery business hours, for the duration of the class.

Tile Making Workshops with Pete Halladay

Third Saturday of each Month 12-4pm

September 20 - Mosaic Tiles

October 18 - Relief Tiles

November 15 - Silk Screened Raku Tiles

Learn some of the techniques used in the creation of our famous decorated bathroom. Create your own small mosaic design or mural using wet clay or already bisqued tile. Explore new glazing techniques including underglaze, overglaze and raku to produce many decorative effects. The possibilities are endless!!

Cost $30 per session

Materials $25 per 25# of clay Tiles $1.50/ea

Friday September 5, 5 -6pm prior to the Opening Reception and Raku Firing

Mastering the Wheel Wednesdays September 10 - November 12 1-3 pm
On-going, drop-in class for students 16+
who have some experience on the potter’s wheel and who want to expand their capabilities. Through a series of fun exercises and projects, students will explore the vast potential of the wheel to build a more developed set of skills for their functional and sculptural projects.
Cost $15 drop in fee or 4 sessions for $56 Materials $25 per 25# of clay (includes clay, glazes and firing)

VISION and After School Clay Classes
Wednesdays, September 10 - November 12 3-5 pm
This class is designed as an introduction to techniques for forming clay objects, using traditional hand building processes and work on the wheel. Emphasis will be on creativity and self-expression. Ages 12 and up.
Cost $84 Materials $25 per 25# of clay (includes clay, glazes and firing)

Evening Clay Classes
10 Wednesdays, September 10 -November 12 6-8 pm
This class is open to students of all levels. Explore hand building and or wheel throwing, as well as a variety of decoration and glaze techniques. We will be working with mid-range firing temperature. Instruction will be guided by student interest.
Cost $140 Materials $25 per 25# of clay (includes clay, glazes and firing)

Handbuilding Techniques and Projects with Mary Jursinovic
Thursdays, 4-6pm
Weekly Sessions include demonstration and instruction to complete a piece during each session.
September 4 - Pinch pots and surface design. Use basic pinch pot technique to create an elegant candlestick.
September 11 - Slump and Press molds. Use slabs to explore texture and shape to create a bowl and/or plate.
September 18 - Building with slabs. Create a vase or container using slabs cut from patterns developed during class.
September 25 - Coil and Scrape building. Using a “puki” base form build a bowl or pot using traditional Apache techniques from the American southwest.
October 2 - Working with colored clays. Using multiple colors of clay explore any of the previous handbuilding techniques.

October 16-November 13 Mary will work with you do expand on your mastery of hand building skills and techniques.

Surface Design in Colored Slips with Suki Strong

Saturday, October 4 12-4 pm

Suki will share some of her amazing techniques for decorating your hand-built, thrown or slumped pots.

Beginning Stained Glass
Saturday September 20 12-6 pm

Tuesday October 14 - 12-6 pm
Create/select a pattern, choose your glass and construct a fabulous stained glass panel.
Cost: $60 per 6 hour session Materials: $10

Fused Glass
Tuesday September 16 2-5pm

Saturday, October 25 2-5 pm
Be inspired by the magic of glass fusing and create a series of pendants or charms.
Cost: $30 per 3-hour session Materials: $10 fee

Letting GO! with Jim Wagner

Friday September 19 9 am- 12-pm

Come for a fun day of experimental play with paper and paint. Jim will bring a variety of tools to try out to find a looser way to approach your own creativity.

All Jewelry Creation Day with the Art Jewelers Guild

Saturday, September 27 - 10 am- 3 pm

In a reprise of our very popular kids jewelry class, Creamery members will offer Chain making (Kathy Armour), Beading (Virginia Jensen), Fine silver fusing and wire wrapping (Sandra Lee), and Metal clay charms (Cindy Holst).
Cost: $20 plus materials
All materials may be purchased during the class.

$15 for fine silver clay for 2 charms.

Composition and Design with Jodeen Stephenson

Saturday, September 20 12-4 pm

Deepen your understanding of the artistic desdign principles, leading you to create stronger composition across all media. Use your digital camera to experiment and gain feedback throughout this fun and enlightening day. Cost: $25 (bring any digital camera)

Screen Print your own Holiday Cards with Robert Noonan

Saturday, October 18 1-5 pm

Create your own original design, transfer to a silk screen then make several prints on card stock to send to friends and family.

Cost: $20 includes materials

Alcohol Ink Art Party with Carol Ann Rasmusen

Saturday, October 25 9 am- 12 pm

Experiment with this very serendipitous medium to create several beautiful, jewel-toned paintings.

Cost: $20 includes materials

Beading Art Party with Maggie Mauzy

Saturday, November 1st 1-4 pm
Design a color coordinated suncatcher using basic beading stitches such as the ladder stitch and tails. These stitches form the foundation of many intricate jewelry designs. All materials included in the fee.
Cost : $10 Materials Fee $5

Holiday Art Making Celebrations

Photoshop Layers and Masks with Jodeen Stephenson

Saturday, November 8 12-4pm

Harness the power of Photoshop layers and masks to optimize your favorite shots for printing and screen viewing. Bring your own laptop computer with PhotoShop or Elements installed. We have a limited number of computers for use, if you don't have one. Materials fee includes one high-end print of your photo.

Cost: $25 Materials:$10

Fine Art Printing for Photographers with Jodeen Stephenson

Saturday, December 6 10am-4 pm

Create high quality prints on a variety of media (such as fine art paper, canvas or transparency) by optimizing your images, practicing an efficient workflow, and managing your color space. Fee includes at least one fine art print of your work.
Location: Art Classroom and/or Jodeen’s studio at Midway

Cost: $45 Materials: $20

Registration can be completed at the CAC, by mail, or by phone at 970-872-4848/toll free 866-821-ARTS.
**Registration is not required for drop-in classes.

Enrollment: All classes have a 5 student minimum unless otherwise noted. If the minimum is not met the decision to cancel a class will be made at least 3 days before the first class meeting. Some classes have a limited enrollment. A student is considered registered only after full payment has been received by CAC. Educators and class times are subject to change.

Payment: Tuition and materials cost is due in full at the time of registration unless otherwise noted. If a class is cancelled by CAC a full refund will be given. CAC accepts payment by cash, check, Visa or Mastercard. A limited number of needs based scholarships are available for all youth classes. Please contact the CAC for more information.

For all classes wear clothes that you can be creative in (or bring an apron)!

Special News!

This Fall, the Creamery will offer two exciting new formats for adult education. Three courses will be offered for college credit, in partnership with the Delta Montrose Technical College. These credits will form the foundation coursework for an Associate of Arts degree. Three ceramics courses and one glass fusing course will be offered this semester, with more to follow.

We are also offering fun-filled workshops in a wide variety of media. These sessions will offer an inexpensive introduction to new media and techniques.

Look for two series of workshops in the clay studio. Pete Haalday teach work shops in various tile making skills on the third Saturday of each month. New resident, Mary Jursinovich is bringing her Handbuilding skills to the Creamery every Thursday evening. Each workshop will provide a stnd-alone experience with a different project each session. See below for specific topics and schedule.
